Produce….Do yourself a flavour

What's in Season....

I always find it helpful to have a guide to what fruit and vegetables are in season. This way you can be assured you're getting the best taste out of your produce. You can generally get a feel for what's around when you shop at farmer's markets or organic shops, basically if the produce is not in season then it won't be there. The supermarket is a different story as they import, and the methods of producing certain fruit and veg are different. If you can buy local produce that's in season you are doing yourself a favour both with how it tastes and for the health benefits. Of course if you buy local produce it also helps to support the grower's in your State. Very important in my opinion!

Here is a general seasonal guide.....

Good produce always has to be in its peak season to taste the best. Below is a list of foods that I encourage you to seek out and try, preferably at the right seasonal time to reap the rewards. I can assure you, you will have a “moment” with what you are eating.

Strawberries from Organically Grown on St Bernards Rd, Rostrevor
My God. Is all I can say. And I am not religious. These organically grown strawberries are the most flavoursome, sensual, exciting and luscious strawberries I have ever tasted.

Blueberries from the Claremont Farmers Market (Perth WA).
Never have I eaten blueberries with so much sweetness and flavour. Almost worth a plane ticket over to the West!

Cheese Petit Sapin - Vacherin Mont d'Or
This is one amazing French cheese. It is incredibly creamy and just oozes when you open it. A nutty and woody flavour comes through with the gorgeous smooth texture. Be warned, you can easily devour the entire cheese in one sitting.

And...... 'St Angel Brie', France - It's stunning!

Basil from Organically Grown on St Bernards Rd, Rostrevor
The biggest leaves, the richest colour, the strongest and freshest smelling AND with that comes the exceptional fragrant flavour of naturally grown, organic basil.

Bird in Hand Olive Oil
Mild and non-offensive but still with plenty of beautiful soft flavour.

Smoked Wagyu from Barossa Fine Foods (Central Market)
Grrr!
